Homework for session 3: AI & Machine learning
What do I consider to be AI?
According to me, artificial intelligence refers to the creation of a machine/object gathering both a technological expertise and a human sensitivity. The purpose of which is to optimize and develop more efficient and adapted technologies.
The latest use of AI is one technology that overruns the current market: vocal personal assistant. This new technology concept is a device with voice recognition to which you can ask questions and tasks. For instance, if you want to know what’s the weather like, you will have the information right away. Moreover, as long as it is connected with other technological devices, like your smartphone, you can easily ask the machine to send a message, give a call.
Artificial Intelligence is also used in hotels with a robot that replaces concierge and can give advice to customers.
We also see many developments in the automobile industry with autonomous cars

What is Machine Learning?
As I understood it, machine learning is the fact to make a computer or system able to collect information and assimilate them. Then, the technology can, by itself, take action regarding what they learned.
Even though the goal of both AI and Machine learning tend to be similar, these are not the same.
Indeed, Machine learning will help to create artificial intelligence as long as this is part of the process to create devices with AI.

1. What is meant by ‘passive website’, how does this compare to personalized pages delivered to a guest using a hotel website
The passive website refers to hotels online booking websites that are designed in a more traditional way and that had not been thinking to thrill and match with clients expectations. The experience will remain "basic" meaning that the path is not adapted to the customer need and expectation.
2. How can personalization of web pages permit more hotel direct bookings vs. OTAs
By adapting its online path the hotel will offer the customer a tailor-made experience and match with its profile. As long as you offer someone something that is going to fit him, you are more likely to get its loyalty. Thanks to that, step by step, guests that will find the "extra-mile" inside your website, they will come back and forget another source.
3. Why, in your opinion, do travelers expect more personalization? Find one resource to support your opinion -
For few years, people are looking for more. This obsession for more is directly related to the evolution of customer expectations. They want more comfort, more personalization, more opportunities to live exclusive experiences. With globalization and competitiveness in the different sectors, people are more demanding in term of personalization. They want to be seen as an individual customer and not just consumer. Moreover, this is also considered as a generational effect. The younger generation tends to be more sensitive with personalized service as long as they want to feel unique and be differentiated from other. Indeed, they want the experience delivered to match with their identity, values.
